Affiliate Summit East 2016logo-final-01-600x430 is nearly here! Looking to make it the best yet? We suggest you come prepared.

The summit will take place July 31 – Aug 2 at Marriott Marquis, in New York, NY. It offers educational sessions and plenty of opportunity to meet with affiliates, affiliate managers, advertisers, OPMs/agencies, solution providers and networks. Whether you’re new to the conference, or an Affiliate Summit veteran, below are some tips to help you make the most of this exciting event.

Pre-conference

Before the conference even starts, lay the foundation for a successful experience.

1. Plan your conference schedule in advance

Once the conference starts, things move fast. Make note of can’t miss sessions so that you don’t accidently plan a meeting or grab lunch during a session you had been looking for. Check out #5 below for our standout session suggestions.

2. Print out your meeting schedule.

With thousands of attendees in the same location, the free wifi that comes with your summit badge is not something you want to rely on. With so many users, you may want to have a backup plan. Print out your meeting schedule ahead of of time and keep it with you, or have it opened as a tab on your phone’s browser.

3. Leave room for swag in your suitcase.

With three days of meetings, expo hall visits, and trips around the Big Apple, you’re sure to leave with a little more than you came with. To make sure everything fits try packing a little less, so you can go home with more.

4. Business cards.

A box of business cards may be the most important thing to bring along. Business cards can make or break your conference experience. With thousands of marketers in attendance, you’ll want to make sure you are remembered – for the right reasons.

On the flip side, you’ll collect quite a few business cards yourself. Bring a business card case to house all your new contact cards and a pen to note the relevancy of each one. It will be more difficult than you think to remember who you met where and what you discussed when you are looking at 100+ cards at the end of day three.

Conference

Once you arrive at your hotel, be prepared to make the most of the show.

6. Be prepared to talk – a lot.

Keep a water bottle, cough drops and gum handy. Over the three days, you will be doing a lot of talking. Water dispensers will usually be in the meeting rooms and expo hall.

7. Connect with your contacts.

Make sure to get cell phone numbers for everyone you planned a meeting with – especially if you’ve never met them in person. As previously mentioned, relying on the wifi can be tricky. In the crowded lobby and packed restaurants it may be difficult to put a name to a face. Exchanging cell phone numbers will help ensure you’re able to find each other in the hectic public spaces.

8. The Meet Market and Expo Hall.

Visiting the expo hall can be overwhelming – and a whole lot of fun. Make the most of it by visiting Monday, or at the latest Tuesday morning. Some booths may close down early and attendees will begin to leave so if you wait until the end of the conference you risk missing out. While you’re there, make sure to stop by table 202 to meet our Forensiq team and learn how you can squash ad fraud.

9. Eat well and have fun.

Keep your trip interesting and fun. Plan meetings with partners, clients and new acquaintances at one of the many world class venues New York has to offer.

For instance, ready for a twist on the traditional game of ping pong? Challenge your clients to a game at SPiN – a hip, but welcoming, ping pong restaurant and bar. Once you’ve worked up an appetite order some drinks and enjoy flatbread pizzas, milkshakes, salads and other classic treats with a twist from their full service kitchen and bar.

Keep in mind, many of New York’s restaurants and attractions have significant wait times or require prior reservations, so plan accordingly.

Remember, Affiliate Summit is about work and play, so have fun!
